The truth is in the miracles. I see them everyday.
It is trending since the Secret by Rhonda Byrne was released November 2006, that whatever we choose to manifest will become a reality. This is easier said than done, but is it true? Can we really make anything we want a reality?
Is it truly all about perspective?
I believe it is about giving ourselves permission to have it. We all live in the prison of ourselves, full of self-deprecating thoughts, feelings of unworthiness and doubt about ourselves. These are the obstacles that prevent us from stepping into our truth our dharma and truly having it all.
According to the New Oxford American Dictionary the definition of ritual is a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order. Its origins go back to the late 16th century Latin "ritualis" or Rite. In other words a ceremony or performance that prescribes or delivers a result or right. In my mind, a right to have it, or permission.
Ritual: Say this to yourself every morning - "It is so easy when I allow myself to have it."
But how do we know for sure?
About a year ago I was reading Danielle Laporte’s book The Desire Map.
It is a beautiful and inspiring work engaging the reader into an inquiry of their true desired feelings. Five words that encompass everything that we feel right now. If you can only bring one suitcase with you from this lifetime when you die, what are the five words that you get to put into that suitcase. When I began the workbook which helps to unravel these words I began to feel constricted and lost. I didn’t know what my words were, I couldn’t feel anything. I had spent so much of my life seeking out these words from the external environment, my parents, my job, my wife and kids. I was void of my own internal feelings. It took me a while to realize that this was a great gift. I had been living my life hidden. It made me realize that I had work to do to get to the heart of my insides.
Where are you in this conversation? How is this landing? Do you feel empowered by your internal validation? What are your core desired feelings?
If you can’t answer these questions, that okay. It is an ever changing process and you are not alone.
What does this have to do with ritual?
I believe that if I believed in my heart, with no shadow of a doubt, that I could walk on water, than I could do it. Think what it would take to completely remove all cultural and social instructions that we have been taught about the world and the reality we live in to truly believe. It is hard to imagine. And that is the trick. Our imagination is the greatest access to manifesting whatever our heart’s desire. Freeing our imagination to "having it all" is the answer.
The reason that we use rituals, are to go through the act and the practice. I love ritual. It allows my mind to quiet and stop working so hard and allow a physical and spiritual reality to manifest itself. This is what I like to think of as hot-wiring our ever present and overbearing mind from getting in my way. Yes, ritual is a hot wire to what we desire. The more specific the ritual, the more detailed, the more spell components, the more impactful the result.
For example, my wife Liz and I decided to make dream vision boards this year over the solstice. For those that don’t know what a dream vision board is, it is a practice of writing down everything we want, for our kids, for our work, love and relationships, all of it. We paste it on the back of the board and then collage images to go along with what we wrote. The art of manifesting through dream vision boards are truly amazing, and what makes them work, different from just really really wanting something, is that the practice of writing it, pasting it and creating it and then looking at the board every day, creates a reality (a ritual) that the universe can hear. Once the Universe understands what it is I want, it’s goes to work on it. (If you are curious about making your own vision board please connect with us here.)
Last week I went to a workshop on prosperity and money hosted by Lynn Brown. She is a financial advisor that also is an intuitive. In her workshop she explained that money and wealth is like a conscious entity that’s sole purpose is to do and provide whatever it is we ask of it. And it is completely at the mercy of whatever we ask of it. No matter if it is for creating a business that provides guns to war lords or if it is a charity organization helping the homeless. It is a servant to whatever it is we ask of it. It will not punish nor reward the requests we make, but here is the trick. It will never provide anything we do not ask for, and we have to be specific and clear of what we ask of it.
I thought this was an amazing metaphor. I had never put myself in the shoes of wealth and money. I have always thought of money as something that you have to work hard for and only those that work harder and harder get the rewards. Shedding this reality and belief system was the first step toward getting everything we desire.
There is something else that lives at the heart of manifesting whatever it is we desire. Worthiness. This is a big one. For if we don’t believe we are worthy, then we will not give ourselves permission to have it. If you are like I was, you may not even know whether you feel worthy. You may not even be aware of the shame that lives at the heart of yourself.
"Shame is fear that we don’t want to talk about."
Lots of people are able to speak about their fear. But most people do not like to talk about their shame. But here is the secret of shame I learned from Mike Hrostoski at the School for Men.
"Shame will disappear when it is exposed to light."
The best way to get at the heart of our worthiness is to talk about the shame that we hold around our heart. All you have to do is write it down, put it in a journal, paint a picture, speak into a recorder, tell a friend - therapist or whomever. Go to the cemetery and tell your Mom or Dad or Grandma or Grandpa or your Dog or Cat or Hamster - it doesn’t matter, as long as you expose it - get it out of your body, it will whither away and die like a vampire in the sunlight.
What are good rituals?
The act of meditation is an amazing way to quiet the mind. When the mind slows down we begin to get access to the stories that lie beneath. Have you ever tried to watch a movie while surrounded by people talking. It is almost impossible to hear and follow what is going on. The chatting is preventing you from seeing and listening to the stories that lie there, waiting to be exposed and released.
Another great ritual is to go for a walk. Moving your body and seeing the world around you is an amazing way to get access to our spirit’s message.
There are many rituals, and the more specific and unique, the more powerful it will be. It is fun to come up with new and amazing ways to get what you desire, and the best part is there is nothing to lose. It is an infinite and abundant universe waiting for all of us to tap in.
